Custom woodwork made with passion
For over 30 years, Kevin Sather has been designing and building fine furniture and custom cabinetry for homes and offices across the United States. He is known for blending old-world artisan craftsmanship with the precision of modern woodworking equipment to create pieces that are both beautiful and built to last.
Originally from western Montana, Kevin discovered his passion for woodworking at a young age. His creativity and keen eye for detail quickly made the craft a natural fit.
Now based in Merrill, Wisconsin, in Lincoln County, Kevin continues to grow his business, Blackline Woodworks, which has become widely recognized as a trusted local source for custom furniture, cabinetry, and restoration work

Furniture Design Philosophy
Kevin’s approach to furniture and cabinet design is inspired by clean lines, graceful proportions, quality craftsmanship, and a strong focus on function. He believes the natural beauty of wood provides all the ornamentation a piece truly needs. This philosophy results in furniture and cabinetry that is simple, elegant, well-constructed, and built from carefully selected lumber.
When designing furniture and cabinets, Kevin also keeps in mind that most clients do not have an unlimited budget. One advantage of his design approach is that the light, graceful look is often achieved using thoughtfully proportioned components such as thinner tops, legs, and panels. This helps keep material costs reasonable, while minimal ornamentation reduces unnecessary labor.
While Kevin never compromises the structural integrity or quality of a piece, he carefully considers cost during the design process. Thoughtful planning at the design stage often results in significant savings during production while still delivering a beautiful, durable finished product.
Why Buy Wood Furniture From Blackline Woodworks?
Today, countless furniture options are available through large online retailers and big-box stores. Much of this furniture is mass-produced around the world using varying materials and manufacturing methods. While the convenience of buying furniture with the click of a button or at a local store is appealing, many discerning customers choose the lasting quality of Blackline Woodworks’ handmade hardwood furniture.
Each piece from Blackline Woodworks is thoughtfully crafted to offer durability, beauty, and character—qualities rarely found in mass-produced furniture. For those who value craftsmanship and materials that stand the test of time, custom furniture remains the clear choice.
Wisconsin Craftsmanship
Our solid wood furniture is handcrafted right here in Wisconsin by Kevin Sather, who has more than 25 years of experience building fine wood furniture. Each piece is made using eco-friendly wood that is sustainably harvested from local and regional North American forests.
We do not use imported, endangered rainforest woods. By choosing our furniture, customers support American craftsmanship, help create local jobs, and contribute to the responsible management of our forests for future generations.
